Will Eli Manning be a Hall of Famer?
I don't know. I like Eli. He has become a really good quarterback. For years, I have said that he was in the top 10 of NFL quarterbacks, but closer to 10 than 1. But right now Eli is playing like a top 5 quarterback, in a time when the league is loaded with "elite" quarterbacks: Brady, Brees, Rodgers. and his brother Peyton. I imagine that if you took a poll of NFL "experts," the results would look something like this:
1. Brady
2. Rodgers
3. Brees
4. Peyton (Missed the entire 2011 season)
5. Eli
6. Roethlisbuerger
7. Vick
8. Romo
9. Rivers
10. Ryan
Close: Schaub, Stafford, & Newton
Eli is not the best quarterback in the NFL, but he's a lot closer to that than anybody previously thought. He is 31 years (I am always surprised to hear how old Eli is now). He stays healthy and has avoided any significant injuries. Is it unreasonable to think that he has 3-to-4 prime years left? Tom Brady is still at the top of his game at age 34.
If Eli maintains this level (or even with a slight drop off), he will go down as the greatest quarterback in Giants history. Would he make the Hall of Fame? I wouldn't be surprised. Even one year ago, considering him for the HOF would have been laughable. It's still probably silly now. But 5 years from now, who knows?
